Our Location
Virginia Women's Wellness is conveniently located in the lovely resort town of Virginia Beach, just one block from Virginia Beach Boulevard, the main thorough fare of Virginia Beach, and only 6 miles from the beautiful sands and surf of the Beach. Tourists travel to Virginia Beach from all over the United States to enjoy the beauty and fun of Virginia Beach.
There are many stores and restaurants on Virginia Beach Boulevard, a large shopping mall is only 1 mile away. And the famous Virginia Beach boardwalk with the sun, fun, nightlife, and surf is only 6 miles away. There are many options for hotels nearby, and we will be glad to recommend somewhere to stay.
The fact that Virginia Beach is a vacation destination and a famous tourist attraction is helpful to women seeking abortion for two reasons. First, there is plenty to do and see here, if you or those coming with you want something to do while you are visiting. Second, for patients who do not want to tell their friends or family why they are travelling, some patients just say they are coming to Virginia Beach for a short vacation.
Virginia Women's Wellness offers abortions up to 26.6 weeks. We believe that we are the only outpatient provider of abortions in the US South that offers abortion services to this gestation.
And even for women only 6 weeks into their pregnancy, we believe that we are the closest one-day abortion clinic to many cities, if not most cities, in the great states of: North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana.
It is a very sad comment on the state of women's rights to abortion in the United States, but Virginia Women's Wellness believes that it is the closest Southern provider of one-day abortions to most of the US South. Why do we say this? Let us look at abortion access in the US South:
Tennessee - Abortion is completely banned.
Louisiana - Abortion is completely banned.
Alabama - Abortion is completely banned.
Texas - Abortion is completely banned.
Mississippi - Abortion is completely banned.
Arkansas - Abortion is completely banned.
West Virginia - Abortion is completely banned.
Kentucky - Abortion is completely banned.
Georgia - Abortion is banned after 6 weeks.
South Carolina - Abortion is banned after 6 weeks.
Florida - Abortion is banned after 6 weeks.
North Carolina - Abortion is banned after 12 weeks. But before 12 weeks, women who want an abortion in NC must come in person for 2 appointments separated by 3 days! This is because the North Carolina legislature apparently believes that women are too weak in their minds to quickly make their own decisions about their own lives. The NC legislature has decided that women who want an abortion should be forced to "think about" their decision and then wait, for 3 days, before being allowed to proceed with an abortion. This is very inconvenient for the people of North Carolina. But for people travelling to North Carolina from another state, it is even worse. This can be a huge hurdle. It either means making 2 trips to NC and back, or else staying in a hotel room for 3 nights to "think about" your decision. This means the added expenses for hotels and travel, plus more time away from work and child care. Many women find it is more convenient to simply drive to Virginia Women's Wellness (even though it means 2 extra hours driving) because they can come to our office and get everything done in one, single, same-day visit. You can drive to our office, have your procedure, and be back-on-the-road-again, and home that same day. It means one day away from home, instead of 3 or 4 days.
Fortunately, for women driving long distances, Virginia has no required waiting periods. And Virginia Women's Wellness recognizes that many women prefer to obtain their abortion in a single day-trip, without the need for expensive hotels or planes. We know that for women driving long distances, many are on a tight schedule. Therefore, we make every effort to streamline your visit to our office so that you can arrive at our office, obtain your care in one visit, and then get back to your life and what matters to you.
